A statistical perspective on women and men in the EU 27

Women almost equal with men in usage of internet

NEW FIGURES FROM THE EU”S STATISTICAL arm Eurostat show that the percentage of women and men using the world wide web on a regular basis is roughly equal in many Member States. For those aged between 16 and 24 slightly more women use the internet every week while, when it comes to looking for a job, female users outnumber males in several countries across all age groups. France and the Baltic states also show an excess of women over men accessing internet banking. Although both sexes and all ages have increased internet use by about 10% since 2006, there remains a big generation gap with over 55s more than 50% behind the under 24s.

REACH navigator makes it easy to register chemicals

Amid some criticism of the small number of chemicals so far registered as candidates for substitution by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) and the inadequacy of its computer system REACH-IT, a new tool has been launched to allow manufacturers and users to quickly find out their obligations. The ‘Navigator’ asks a number of questions to determine whether a user has to submit details of a particular substance and links to the relevant parts of the EU directive.
