Is this part of the EU ?

The foundation is a European Agency. As such it is linked to the European Commission but is not part of it.

What does it do ?

It researches subjects such as the labour market, changes in society, living conditions and the rôle of governments and trade unions.

What does it do with the information ?

The idea is to keep the politicians who make EU decisions well-informed and up to date.

Who does the research ?

The foundation has a network of experts throughout Europe as well as its own staff drawn from all Member States.

Are the unions involved ?

Trade unions are represented on the administrative board as are employers, governments and the Commission.

Who pays for it ?

The money comes from the EU. The total for 2004 is €18,180,000.
