New survey shows people want constitution

In a new 'Eurobarometer' survey carried out by the EU's statistical arm Eurostat, the majority of those questioned favoured the ratification of an EU constitution and were prepared for their national governments to make some concessions in order to get it. Although there were variations between Member States, with the Danes, Swedes and British being least enthusiastic, all countries recorded pro figures of over 50%. There were more people in favour of making concessions than against in all present and prospective members except Slovakia. However only about a quarter of EU citizens thought that they were 'well informed' on the present draft constitution.

EYPD gets good recognition factor but UK bottom of the heap

2003's European Year of People with Disabilities seems to have done a good job in raising awareness, according to a recent Eurobarometer survey. 33% of those asked had heard of the campaign by September. However results varied most from country to country with the UK having the lowest recognition factor and Ireland the highest. When asked if the campaign had improved access to employment for disabled people more answered yes than no although 'don't know' featured strongly in the UK.
